What do you need to know about my computer?

Try to tell me as accurately as possible what the last thing you did before you started having problems. Did you install new software or hardware? Did you spill a liquid on your computer?...etc.

What do I need to take besides the computer to your shop?

Just your tower and if it's a laptop, bring your charger. If your battery goes dead I won't be able to complete the necessary work. Also bring any CD's or DVD's that came with your computer.

How long will it take for you to fix the computer?

1) It all depends on what is wrong with your computer.
2) If there are parts that need to be ordered, that can add a little bit more time to the repair.
3) It's also dependant on how many computers I have in the shop. This is a first in first out system.
4) Generally, If parts are need to be ordered it will take the shipping time plus up to three(3) days; however, I do my best to get it installed within the next business day.
5) Generally, the turnaround time for repairs without ordering parts are a two to three days.

How do I get my computer back in shorter time then you said?

I understand that not having a computer is no fun; However, I will do the best I can to get it back to you as fast as I can. I am sorry but this is first come, first out base.

Why did you have to order the parts for my computer; don't you stock that kind of thing?

I do keep a few parts in stock, but with the way technology changes, keeping parts in stock usually results in a loss. Ordering parts as needed allows me to keep my prices lower than others in the area. Also with ordering parts as needed you get up-to-date hardware or software.

Why are your prices so low? The other place wanted double then what you wanted.... Why?

I enjoy working on computers however; I do not have a lot of overhead like some do so that keeps my prices lower than others. I am also certified from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a member of ACRBO, and the Chamber of Central MA South.

What can I do to protect my computer from viruses and spyware?

A good combination of an anti-virus scanner and spyware scanner kept up to date is a good start. The truth is there are no fail-safe ways to prevent your computer from becoming infected. Software can be helpful but only delays the inevitable. If you spend a good amount of time on the internet, the chances are very high that you will eventually become infected.

What if you come to my house/business to work on my computer but can't fix it?

If for some reason I am not able to repair your computer on site, I will take your computer back to my shop and repair it and waive all of the on-site fees. I will also deliver the computer back to your location at no additional cost.

How often should I defrag my hard disk?

That really depends on what you do with the drive. If you add and delete a lot of data, you'll want to defrag monthly. If you're a casual user, every three to six months is probably fine.

The loose definition of Spyware is any program that monitors your computing behavior and reports back to a "home base." The purpose of this is usually to serve you ads. As a result, Spyware often breaks your system because it attempts to change system settings, such as your browser homepage.

What is Remote Access to my computer?

The ability to log into a computer from a distant location. Whereas remote control refers to taking control of another computer, remote access means that the remote computer actually becomes a full-fledged host on the network. The remote access software dials in directly to the computer.
